The Wai'alae Drive-In Theater in Kaimuki, built next to an old graveyard and closed in the 1980s, was home to one of O'ahu's most enduring ghost stories: a faceless woman said to haunt the women's restroom, pounding on stall doors or appearing in the mirror with long hair and no face. In one widely told account, a teenage girl who saw the figure while checking her lipstick around midnight found the restroom door had slammed shut, trapping her inside, and fainted from fright. The legend has since spread across O'ahu, with reports of the same faceless woman surfacing at a Hilo apartment complex, a Kailua intermediate school, and the Moanalua school campus.
The drive-in closed in 1986. The site is now a gated residential community and a storage facility, so there is nothing to visit.
