The ghost of Queen Lili'uokalani, the Kingdom of Hawai'i's last reigning monarch, is said to walk the halls of the State Capitol. In one widely told account, State Senator Eloise Tungpalan's young daughter described playing with a "nice Hawaiian lady" in her mother's office — the next morning, when the bronze "Spirit of Lili'uokalani" statue outside the Capitol was unveiled, the girl said that was the woman she'd been playing with. Staff also report the ghostly scent of cigar smoke, which some attribute to the lingering presence of former governor John A. Burns.
State Capitol, open weekdays with free admission. Guided tours leave from Room 415 in the early afternoon on Tuesdays through Fridays.
