At the Ohio Theatre, visitors report lights floating in the balcony and screams heard around midnight. Built in 1938 on the site of an earlier theater that burned in 1937, the 1,018-seat Ohio Theatre hosted the 1958 premiere of Some Came Running, filmed in Madison and starring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Shirley MacLaine — a Hollywood star was placed outside to mark the occasion. The theater closed in 1993, was renovated and reopened in 1996, closed again in 2016, and was taken over by the nonprofit Friends of the Ohio Theatre after a 2018 roof fire; it continues to operate today.
