The Myra Brothel and Hotel occupies the top floor of Tony's Tin Shop in uptown Butte, in the city's old red-light district. Ned and Mary Owen leased the floor from the Canonica family from 1926 to 1929 and advertised it as a hotel, though it operated as a brothel. Ned Owen died in 1927 of Prohibition-era alcohol poisoning. Southwest Montana's haunted-places guide names Ned and Mary and a violent former patron, Lucian Pippen, called the Mad Greek, as spirits said to remain. Reported experiences include shadowy figures, children laughing, the smell of cigar smoke, and women calling out for Rosie. Old Butte Historical Adventures includes the Myra on its East Walking Tour.
Visit through a guided tour such as Old Butte Historical Adventures' East Walking Tour; the building is not open for drop-in visits. Confirm current tour dates before going.
