The Copper King Mansion in Butte was built in the 1880s as the home of William A. Clark, one of the richest men in America during Butte's copper boom. The 34-room Victorian mansion is regularly named among Montana's most haunted houses. Visitors and staff report doors that open and close or are found locked when no one has touched them, and a room that stays near 53 degrees even when the rest of the house is warm. Some visitors describe a presence in the ballroom. Tours and events are offered in season.
Historic mansion open for tours and events, with seasonal hours. Check ahead for current tour times and any overnight options.
