Also known as Irish Cemetery, this burial ground was largely forgotten until the late 1940s, when a subdivision developer paved a road directly through it — moving and discarding the headstones of an Irish family's plots to make way for the street. Local legend holds that the desecration awakened the spirit of Lucinda Irish, whose grave is the first monument visitors see approaching the cemetery, and that she has watched over the grounds and warded off vandals ever since. In recent years, as volunteers have cleared the overgrowth and maintained the cemetery properly, reported sightings of Lucinda have grown rarer.
Historic cemetery on a residential street, where many old monuments are toppled and recovery work is under way. Visit during daylight, watch your footing, and don't move or climb on the stones.
