Minot's Ledge Light stands on a rock about a mile off the coast at Cohasset and Scituate. The first tower, an iron-legged structure, was swept into the sea in an April 1851 storm, killing its two assistant keepers, Joseph Antoine and Joseph Wilson, and the granite tower that replaced it was finished in 1860. Legend holds that the ghost of one of the lost keepers climbs the tower and is heard calling out in storms. The tale is part of the area's maritime folklore, and Visit Massachusetts has highlighted it in its Halloween promotion.
The tower is offshore and not open to the public. It can be seen from the shore at Scituate and Cohasset and from boats.
