The J. Huston Tavern in Arrow Rock was built in 1834 by Judge Joseph Huston on the Santa Fe Trail and is one of the oldest continuously operating restaurants west of the Mississippi. Its best-known ghost is the Lady in White, said to be a tailor's wife who rose from bed shortly after childbirth on a snowy night and walked barefoot out of the tavern, her footprints leading to a nearby bluff where she was never seen again. Visitors tell of glimpsing her inside, and professional ghost hunters have reported recording unexplained sounds and images. Arrow Rock's historic village also offers guided autumn ghost walks that include the tavern.
A restaurant in Arrow Rock's historic district, open Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday midday as of 2026; check its hours before going. Guided ghost walks run in autumn.
