This two-story 1850s brick building on 9th Street in Highland now houses Peacock Bakery and Cafe; for decades before that it was home to the House of Plenty restaurant, whose staff and diners first reported the building being haunted. Local lore holds the haunting traces to a couple who drowned in a shipwreck on their way to visit family in Switzerland, not long after a bon voyage party was held for them in the building. Staff have reported strange noises and an unexplained light seen from the basement.
Peacock Bakery and Cafe's current operating status is unclear as of 2026 — some listings show it permanently closed, others show a temporary closure for repairs. Confirm before visiting.
