Built in 1879 by the Bridge Smith Co. of Toledo and originally called Baker Bridge, this 130-foot Howe truss bridge spans the Wabash River near Ceylon in Adams County — the only covered bridge left standing over the river. Closed to vehicle traffic in 1974 but still open to pedestrians, it survived demolition arguments in 1948 and 1953 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. Local legend holds that a group of teenagers performing a séance here years ago saw a figure fall from the ceiling to the floor, leaving a blood stain near the pentagram they'd drawn; visitors since describe an odd feeling inside the bridge, even in daylight.
Pedestrian-only 1879 covered bridge on County Road 900 South near Geneva, in Limberlost County Park. It is open to walkers; the road no longer carries cars.
