Built in 1913 of Indiana limestone, this building served New Haven as city hall, jail, and fire station for most of the 20th century, and as the police station until 1999, when the current city hall and police station opened; it once had an open bell tower where fire hoses were hung to dry, and stood at the physical and governmental center of the old downtown. The building is currently being restored by Ellusions, Inc., who occupy it today. Employees past and present have reported unexplainable events, including corroboration from former police officers who worked there; a remote psychic reading by Sandi Athey described events that previous tenants confirmed, and Fort Wayne Ghost Trackers' investigation recorded orbs and unusual smells, particularly in the basement, rumored to have served as a temporary morgue.
