Fort Douglas, founded in 1862 on the east bench above Salt Lake City and now on the University of Utah campus, holds a military museum in its historic buildings. Its resident ghost, called Clem by a Boy Scout troop who stayed overnight, is a stocky bearded man in a Civil War-era uniform said to be seen in the basement and halls, with breath felt on necks and footsteps on empty stairs. Some guess he was a soldier who died at the fort, but his identity is speculation. The museum has marked October with a program about him.
