The Carolina Inn on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill opened in 1924 and has been named among America's most haunted hotels. Its best-known ghost is Dr. William Jacocks, a physician with the Rockefeller Foundation's International Health Division who lived in Room 256 from 1948 until his death in 1965. Guests report him locking people out of the room, moving furniture and belongings, and trying doors in the hallway, and say he vanishes if spoken to. The inn offers a Boo! package for overnight stays.
Operating inn on Franklin Street's campus edge; ask about Room 256 and the Boo! package when booking.
