Charleston ghost-tour writers list Boone Hall among the area's haunted places, with reports of apparitions and sounds near the cabins and the house; one tour site says a girl and a boy are the most often reported spirits, though their backstories are unknown and these accounts are promotional. The stories grow out of a real history of slavery. Founded in 1681, Boone Hall is one of America's oldest working plantations, known for its half-mile Avenue of Oaks and for a row of surviving cabins that housed the enslaved people who grew cotton and later brick here. The plantation presents that history, including the Gullah culture that survives in the region, in its "Black History in America" exhibit and tours.
Open daily as a working plantation with tours of the house and slave cabins and seasonal events; check Boone Hall for hours and tickets. Respect the grounds and the history they hold.
