The Powder Magazine, completed in 1713, is the oldest government building in South Carolina and the last surviving piece of Charleston's original fortifications, built to store gunpowder for the colony's defense. It is now a museum of the colonial period. Ghost-tour writers and the Liberty Trail describe echoes of gunfire and a shadowy figure moving in the grass, and say that the spirits of those hurt in powder explosions and colonial punishments linger here.
Museum open limited hours (check powdermagazinemuseum.org); Charleston ghost tours also stop outside.
