The Vaile Mansion in Independence is a 31-room Second Empire Victorian house completed in 1881 for Harvey Vaile, and it is now a city-run historic house museum. The story tells of Sophia Vaile, seen as a woman in white at the upper windows, and of other spirits in the closed-off upper floors and the Room of Faces. The house is on Independence's paranormal passport and hosts Macabre Tours on select October nights. The stories sit alongside a tour of the mansion's remarkable architecture and the Vaile family's history.
Open for tours in season with admission; Macabre Tours run on select October dates and need tickets. Check the City of Independence's site.
