Teach's Hole is the anchorage near Ocracoke Inlet where the pirate Edward Teach, known as Blackbeard, was killed in a battle with Royal Navy forces on November 22, 1718. A North Carolina historical marker commemorates the spot, and Ocracoke legend says Blackbeard's ghost paces the shoreline looking for his missing head and that his light is seen at night. Ocracoke is a tourist island with a village, a lighthouse and public beaches.
Ocracoke is reached by ferry or boat; the village and its beaches are open to the public, and the historical marker is in the village. The map pin is approximate.
