The Cavalier Hotel, opened in 1927 on a hill above Virginia Beach, hosted presidents and entertainers and remains an operating historic hotel, sold to a new owner in 2026. Visit Virginia Beach and local media tell of a Lady in White floating through the third-floor hallways, an old bellman who warns guests off the sixth floor, a piano in the Raleigh Room that plays by itself and late calls from the sixth floor that connect to the sound of jazz. The brewer Adolph Coors died after a fall from a window in 1929, and he is said to linger. These are lore.
