The Hammock House in Beaufort is traditionally called the oldest house in town, dating to the early 1700s, and legend says the pirate Edward Teach, Blackbeard, stayed there. North Carolina ghost lists and the Beaufort Ghost Walk tell of balls of light and bloodstains that cannot be washed away. It is a privately owned home, and the stories are local folklore.
Private residence, not open to the public. It is pointed out on the Beaufort Ghost Walk; view it from the street and do not trespass.
