Piper's Opera House in Virginia City dates to 1885 and was a leading stage of the Comstock era. Nevada tourism guides list it among the town's haunted businesses, and stories say that John Piper, who gave the hall its name, still appears in the building. The best-known apparition is a young woman in lavender, who smells of lavender and is said to stand at the top of the balcony during performances.
