The Gold Hill Hotel in the Comstock mining district near Virginia City is billed as Nevada's oldest hotel; it was built around 1859 and opened in 1861 as a rooming house for the miners of the Comstock Lode. Nevada tourism writers and Atlas Obscura list it among the state's haunted hotels, and the most often named spirit is a woman called Rosie, blamed for slamming doors and the occasional apparition. Guests and employees have reported figures in the second-floor hallway and bathroom.
Operating hotel, saloon and restaurant on the Virginia City Highway; the best way to experience it is an overnight stay.
