The Old Stone House in Georgetown, built in 1765 by Christopher Layman, is the oldest standing building in Washington and has been a National Park Service museum since 1960. Georgetown ghost tours say about eleven spirits inhabit the house, the most aggressive called George, who is said to shove or strangle visitors on the third floor. Even tour guides admit most of the stories are legend and hearsay with little sourcing, so the hauntings are folklore.
