Oak Hill Cemetery in Georgetown, a hillside Victorian cemetery founded in 1849, is where Willie Lincoln was entombed, the setting for George Saunders's novel Lincoln in the Bardo. Local historian and tour guide Andy Seferlis tells of visitors and staff seeing six white horses drawing a hearse near a mausoleum, a pale woman in white and a cane-carrying figure said to be William Wilson Corcoran, and of the chapel lights being on when no one alive had been inside. These accounts are anecdotal and are standard stops on Georgetown ghost tours.
Historic cemetery open to visitors during posted daytime hours; please respect the graves and any burials in progress.
