The Old Presque Isle Lighthouse on Lake Huron was built in 1840 and is one of the oldest surviving lighthouses in Michigan, now a museum run by the local township. A story tells of a woman locked in the tower by her husband, whose screams are said to be heard on some nights. Another tells of the later caretaker, George Parris, after whose death the light is said to have switched itself on at dusk and off at dawn. Visitors can climb the tower and walk the grounds, where the stories are part of the site's lore.
Open as a museum in the warmer months; check the museum's hours. A small fee applies to climb the tower.
