Point Iroquois Lighthouse, built in 1870 at the entrance to the St. Marys River near Sault Ste. Marie, is now a maritime museum in the Hiawatha National Forest. The legends include a young girl said to have been killed by a bear near the light in the early 1900s, and the shipwreck sailors and earlier inhabitants of the point. Visitors and staff describe a child's presence and other unexplained happenings. The lighthouse remains a favorite stop for those exploring the Upper Peninsula's coast.
Open as a museum in the warmer months with a small admission; check current hours. The tower can be climbed.
