The Jekyll Island Club Historic District preserves the winter retreat built in the late 1800s for some of America's richest families, including the Vanderbilts and Rockefellers, with a clubhouse, cottages and a museum at Mosaic, Jekyll Island Museum. Each fall the Jekyll Island Authority runs Gilded Age Ghosts & Ghouls, an after-dark trolley tour that begins at the museum and shares the paranormal experiences of staff members who work in the historic district, then ends with costumed Club members telling the island's ghastlier tales. Georgia's state tourism site lists the Jekyll Island Club homes among the places staff report unexplained experiences. The stories are told alongside the district's documented history.
Historic district open daily for self-guided walks and museum visits; Gilded Age Ghosts & Ghouls tours run on select October evenings, with advance tickets through Jekyll Island's site. A park pass applies to enter the island.
