The Hower House is a 28-room Second Empire mansion built in 1871 for lumber and agricultural-implement businessman John Henry Hower and now owned by the University of Akron, which runs it as a museum. Haunted Akron writers and student newspapers say that a woman identified as one of the Howers is seen in the house, and that staff have been startled by footsteps and sounds on the upper floors when no one else was there.
Museum open for guided tours on a limited schedule; check the University of Akron's Hower House site before visiting. The grounds can be seen from the street.
