Cloverdale Cemetery is a documented burial ground in Cloverdale Township, Putnam County — organized in 1846 — listed in Indiana's official Cemetery and Burial Grounds Registry. Local legend tells of two girls who drove through the cemetery one night looking for a family grave and said they saw a casket waiting under a tarp beside an open grave, along with an old man in a black cloak standing watch with a lantern; when they worked up the nerve to drive back, he was gone.
