The Calumet Theatre opened in 1900 in the heart of Michigan's Copper Country and still hosts performances in its ornate auditorium. Its ghost is said to be the Polish actress Helena Modjeska, who played here. The story dates to 1958, when an actress said Modjeska's spirit appeared to her on stage after she forgot her lines. Staff and visitors describe a lone woman seen in the balcony, phantom music and sudden drafts of cold air. The theatre was featured on the Travel Channel's Ghostober programming and runs its own ghost-story tours in October.
A working theatre. Historic tours are offered by appointment, and the theatre runs ghost-story tours in October; check its site for dates and prices.
