Big Bay Point Lighthouse stands on a bluff above Lake Superior north of Marquette and has marked this stretch of shoreline since 1896. It now operates as a bed and breakfast, and it is widely called one of the most haunted lighthouses in Michigan. The story tells of an assistant keeper who died by suicide after a falling out with the head keeper, and guests and staff describe doors opening and closing on their own, lights glowing in empty rooms and the sound of boots on the tower stairs at night. Overnight guests can stay in the keeper's quarters, and the lighthouse is open to day visitors at select times.
A bed and breakfast with limited public hours for day visits and tours; check with the lighthouse before going. Rooms can be booked for overnight stays.
