The Bishop's Palace, built in 1892 as the Gresham House for Colonel Walter Gresham, is a Victorian castle on Galveston's Broadway designed by architect Nicholas Clayton. The house was a refuge in the 1900 hurricane, and the Catholic Diocese bought it in 1923. Local ghost tours say Walter and Josephine Gresham remain, and that visitors report unseen pushing and scratching near the front of the house. These stories are legend, and the house is open as a museum.
