The Thomas P. Kennard House is the oldest remaining building in the original plat of Lincoln. The Italianate house was built in 1869 for Thomas P. Kennard, Nebraska's first Secretary of State and one of three men who chose the site of the new capital in 1867. It became the Nebraska Statehood Memorial in 1965 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The house is a stop on the nightly Lost Legends and Lust of Lincoln ghost tour, which describes it as having unsettling legends, but the specific stories are not published in detail, so little is documented about what has been reported here.
State historic site; check History Nebraska for tour availability. The nightly ghost tour views the house from the outside only.
