At the Beacham, staff and visitors describe the ghost of an old woman seen near the stage, whose appearances come with a drastic drop in temperature, and rumors of haunting are tied to the block's violent past: the Orange County Jail stood here from about 1873, and condemned prisoners were hanged on the site. A local ghost walking tour lists the Beacham among its stops. Braxton Beacham Sr., a former Orlando mayor, bought the property in 1917 for roughly $20,000 and built the Beacham Theatre here in 1921, a venue that earned local landmark status in 1987. The building has operated under several names since, including Zuma Beach Club and Tabu, and now as a concert venue called the Beacham.
