The Michigan State Capitol in Lansing was completed in 1878 and has been restored to its Victorian splendor. Lansing's ghost tours include it among the spirits of former workers who died in or around the building, such as a young page who is said to have fallen from the grand staircase in the 1880s and a painter who fell from scaffolding in the rotunda. Visitors have described seeing a man in painter's clothes in the rotunda. These stories are local lore, and the Capitol itself is a working state building that offers regular tours.
Free self-guided and guided tours are offered during regular weekday and Saturday hours; check the Capitol's site for hours and security rules.
