Raynham Hall in Oyster Bay was the home of the Townsend family and was used during the Revolution as headquarters by British officers, including Lieutenant Colonel John Simcoe. It is a museum and one of Long Island's best-known haunted houses, with stories of up to five ghosts, among them Sally Townsend, a young woman said to have been courted by a British officer, a British major who was hanged as a spy, and a child. The museum is open for tours year-round.
