The Morris-Jumel Mansion in Washington Heights, built in 1765, is the oldest house in Manhattan and served as George Washington's headquarters in 1776. It was later the home of Eliza Jumel, whose husband Stephen died here in 1832 after an injury, and local tradition says her angry spirit remains. The house has appeared on the Today show, The Holzer Files and Ghost Adventures, and visitors report a soldier, a maid and Madame Jumel.
House museum open for tours Wednesday through Sunday with periodic ghost tours; check the museum for hours.
