North Dakota State University in Fargo has two of the state's best-known campus ghost stories. Minard Hall, built in 1902 as Science Hall, had a fourth-floor dance hall in the 1920s where two bodies were found after an event, in a suspected double killing that was never solved, and the floor was closed in the 1960s; students report an eerie feeling. Ceres Hall, the 1910 women's dormitory, is said to be haunted on its third floor by the spirits of a man who died by hanging near the end of World War II and a young woman who did the same after failing classes, and paranormal investigators have reported cold spots and an ominous red light in its basement. These are campus legends and involve real deaths.
