The Lafayette Hotel stands at Front and Ohio streets on the Ohio River in Marietta and has welcomed guests since 1918. TourismOhio and the Marietta Times include it on the state's haunted list: guests and staff describe footsteps and voices in empty halls, appliances that switch on and off, doors that open themselves, a maid in a black dress and the spirit of Durwin Hoag, who owned the hotel from 1931 to 1973 and is said to linger on the second floor and in the Gun Room restaurant. Many reports center on the third floor.
Working hotel with a riverfront restaurant; visitors are welcome in the public areas and for dining.
