The Jonathan Hager House in Hagerstown City Park was built around 1739 by Hager, the German immigrant who founded the city, and is now a museum run by the City of Hagerstown. The house is said to be haunted by two later families, the Hammonds, who lived there in the 1840s, and the Downins of the Civil War era. The Downin children are blamed for a corncob doll that changes position, lights that switch off and cameras that fail, and visitors report footsteps, voices and a cradle that rocks without cause. The city offers Ghost Tours at the house on Friday and Saturday evenings in October. The stories are visitor and staff lore.
