The Jailer's Inn is a bed and breakfast in the former Nelson County Jail in Bardstown. The jail, begun in 1797, held prisoners until 1987, and the front building dates to 1819. Paul McCoy, who bought the property and opened it as an inn, runs it, and the inn invites guests to sleep in cells and the old jailer's quarters. Guests and staff report footsteps, voices and other sounds in the old cell blocks, and the inn presents the stories as part of its history.
Operating bed and breakfast open to overnight guests; book ahead for a stay in the old cells. Bardstown's courthouse square and other historic sites are a short walk away.
