The Hampton-Preston Mansion in Columbia was built in 1818 and was home to the Hampton and Preston families, and to the enslaved people whose work kept the household running; it is now a Historic Columbia house museum. Local ghost lists retell a story from a candlelit Christmas tour in 1982, when a docent who had put out every candle and locked the house with the security system on saw the sitting room's candles burning again, and police found the house still locked.
House museum run by Historic Columbia; open for guided tours on select days, so check hours.
