The Gaines Tavern History Center is the Abner Gaines House, a Federal-style house built in 1814 on the site of a tavern that dated to 1795, along the old road between Covington and Lexington. The city of Walton bought the house and 7.6 acres in 2006, restored it and reopened it as a museum and event venue. Kentucky Tourism lists it among the state's haunted places, and in 2022 it was featured on an episode of the television series Ghost Hunters. The city and local library have hosted ghost walks at the house. Specific accounts of what visitors have experienced are less documented than the house's history.
City-run history museum and event venue. Hours are limited and tours are often by appointment, so contact the City of Walton before visiting. Ghost walks are held around Halloween.
