Fort Ontario in Oswego, on Lake Ontario, dates to 1755 and saw fighting in the French and Indian War, the Revolution and the War of 1812. In 1944 it became the only emergency shelter in the United States for refugees from the Holocaust, taking in 982 people. The Haunted History Trail lists it as one of New York's most haunted sites, with reports of soldiers and spirits, and the Ghost Hunters team investigated it in an episode that aired on October 3, 2012.
State historic site with a museum and costumed interpreters in season; check for hours and for evening ghost events.
