Built in 1862 as a Civil War-era coastal fort and listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1972, Fort East Martello is now an art and history museum — and, since 1994, the home of "Robert the Doll." The doll's original owner donated him to the museum after saying he moved around her house on his own and had once locked her in her room; she died a few months later. Since going on display, Robert has developed a reputation for malfunctioning nearby cameras and electronics, and the museum receives a steady stream of letters addressed to him apologizing for disrespectful behavior or asking his forgiveness.
Museum open daily with paid admission. Robert the Doll is displayed here. Check kwahs.org for hours and tickets.
