The Driskill Hotel, built in 1886 by cattleman Colonel Jesse Driskill, is a landmark of downtown Austin and has long drawn ghost stories. Visitors and staff tell of a little girl heard laughing and bouncing a ball near the grand staircase, and of two brides, decades apart, said to have died in Room 525 after being jilted. These accounts are local legend; the hotel acknowledges the stories and is listed on Texas travel sites among the state's haunted hotels.
Working luxury hotel with a bar and restaurants; the lobby and grand staircase are open to visitors.
