Two ghosts are said to haunt the Daytona Playhouse, a man and a woman whose names are unknown. According to the legend, the man died fighting in the war in Spain, and the woman, pregnant and unable to wait any longer for him to return, took her own life and that of her unborn child by jumping into the Halifax River. Staff and performers say the pair seem content to watch rehearsals and productions rather than cause trouble. A white 15-room house stood on this property from around the late 1920s, and it was sold in 1956 to what became the Daytona Playhouse. If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
Operating community theater, run since 1946 by volunteers. You can see it by buying tickets to a production; check daytonaplayhouse.org for the schedule.
