Congressional Cemetery, founded in 1807 on the Anacostia River, is the burial place of dozens of members of Congress, veterans of every war and notables such as J. Edgar Hoover. Its director tells the story of Robert "Beau" Hickman, a well-known figure who died in 1873 and is said to still stand at 6th and Pennsylvania, recognized by his beaver hat, cane and diamond stick-pin. The cemetery's costumed Soul Strolls tell stories of its residents in a storytelling style rather than for scares.
Historic cemetery open daily in daylight; Soul Strolls run seasonally by ticket. Please respect the graves.
