The Benson Hotel, built by timber baron Simon Benson in 1913, is a downtown Portland landmark known for its Circassian walnut lobby. Oregon ghost writers say Benson himself still visits: his apparition has been seen on the grand staircase in a formal suit, and he is blamed for knocking over guests' drinks in the lobby.
Working hotel with a restaurant and bar; the lobby is open to visitors.
