Belle Grove at Port Conway on the Rappahannock River is the birthplace of President James Madison, who was born on this land in 1751, and the present mansion dates to about 1790. It is now a bed and breakfast and event venue, and it has been promoted as one of Virginia's most haunted plantations and as a Ghost Hunters location. Stories of a ghost named Hetty and an abusive overseer are told locally, and the property has hosted paranormal workshops.
Bed and breakfast and event venue that offers tours and occasional ghost hunts by arrangement; call ahead.
