The Wisconsin State Capitol in Madison is a Beaux-Arts landmark completed in 1917 and one of the largest capitols in the country. Messenger staff working alone on the fourth floor of the south wing have told of doors that open by themselves and footsteps overhead, and some stories link the fourth floor to an earlier fire. Reports also mention shadowy figures in the basement and after-hours oddities. Madison ghost tours include the Capitol, which also offers free public tours of its rotunda and chambers.
Free tours are offered regularly and the building is open to visitors during the day; check the Capitol's site for hours and security rules.
